A delegation from the Adult Education Centre (AEC), composed of members of the project team working on the “Implementation of the European Agenda for Adult Learning in North Macedonia,” conducted a study visit to Slovenia from May 14 to 16, 2025. The visit focused on exploring successful strategies for skills development within the Slovenian adult education system.

The study visit began with a working meeting at the Adult Education Department of the Ministry of Education of Slovenia. During the session, representatives of the Ministry provided an overview of the legal and institutional framework governing adult education in Slovenia. The discussion covered key policies, legislative instruments, and implementation mechanisms, and the Slovenian team responded in detail to questions posed by the Macedonian delegation.

Later the same day, the delegation visited the Universum Distance Learning Centre. The director of Universum presented the Centre’s main activities, programs, and pedagogical approaches. The visit provided insight into how national adult education policies are integrated into practice.

The second day of the visit was dedicated entirely to the Lifelong Learning Weeks event, which in 2025 marked its 30th anniversary. The delegation participated in the national celebration, gaining firsthand experience of how Slovenia promotes adult learning across society. The event showcased partnerships between public institutions, NGOs, and local communities, and served as an excellent example of public engagement in lifelong learning.

The final day included a working meeting with the Slovenian Institute for Adult Education (ACS). Representatives of ACS presented the institute’s key responsibilities, ongoing projects, and strategic priorities. The meeting also included an open discussion session, during which the AEC delegation and ACS colleagues exchanged experiences, explored topics of mutual interest, and agreed that there is a willingness and potential for further cooperation between the two related institutions.

The study visit provided the AEC delegation with valuable insights into Slovenia’s approach to adult education, particularly in the areas of policy coordination, institutional cooperation, and public engagement. The meetings and events reinforced the importance of a systemic and inclusive approach to lifelong learning and offered practical examples that may inform future activities and reforms in North Macedonia.
